The Cayman Islands Legal Services Council (LSC) is a statutory body established pursuant to section 3 of the Legal Services Act, 2020 (LSA). One of the main functions of the LSC, as set out under section 5(1)(g) of the LSA, is to carry out the functions imposed on it under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA), in relation to attorneys at law, in accordance with the assignment of the LSC as the Supervisory Authority under section 4(9) of POCA.

The LSSA was established as a non-profit company by the LSC to carry out its supervisory functions. Pursuant to section 5(3) of the LSA and via a written instrument of delegation, the LSC delegated its functions in the role of Supervisory Authority for firms of attorneys at law, to the LSSA.
